Katy Perry went to space on April 14, 2025. Yes, you’ve read it right; the famous pop singer who sings “Roar” and “Firework” went to space in a rocket. She went with Blue Origin. The rocket was named New Shepard. Blue Origin is a space company established by Jeff Bezos. Not only was this journey fun, but it was also a historic moment in the history of space.
A New Generation of Space Crew
The rocket was named New Shepard. It took off from West Texas and soared for about 10 minutes on the 14th of April 2025. The flight lasted for 11 minutes. It crossed the Kármán Line, which is the edge of space. It subsequently landed safely on a parachute.
Katy was not flying Blue Origin alone. She flew with five other women. They were:
- Gayle King, anchor for the news
- Lauren Sánchez, pilot and space activist
- Aisha Bowe, NASA engineer
- Amanda Nguyen, human rights activist
- Kerianne Flynn, producer of film
It was the first all-women space tour after more than 60 years. The previous one was done in 1963. It was with a woman named Valentina Tereshkova. She was a Russian engineer.

A Song in Space
Katy sang “What a Wonderful World” aboard while floating around in zero gravity in Blue Origin. Her vocals were soft and heartfelt. She also had a daisy flower in memory of her daughter, Daisy. Katy wants to inspire her daughter to never have limits on her dreams. She wanted to prove to her daughter that if you have dedication, you can achieve anything in life.
As the capsule returned to Earth, Katy kissed the earth. She was smiling and was very grateful. She made a video later on and said, “This was for my daughter. I want her to know she can do anything — even if it is going to space.”
A Big Step for Women
This space travel from New Shepard was not entertainment alone, though. It showed women too can go to space. Every woman on this trip had another professional life and experience. But they acted like a team.
Lauren Sánchez stated, “We did this to show girls around the world that everything is possible.” Amanda Nguyen added, “This trip was for every girl who dreams big.”
Aisha Bowe was proud, too. She was the first African American woman to ever have a private space flight. “I want children to see me and say, ‘I can do that too,” she said.
Not Everyone Was Happy
All of them were not happy with this trip. Some people think it is too expensive and can be thought of as an unnecessary expenditure. There are others who were thinking, Why does everything have to be for the rich individuals?’ Some people are struggling on earth, but rich individuals take flights into space as a form of entertainment.
Other celebrities like Olivia Munn and Emily Ratajkowski also had their say on their viewpoint. They spoke of how such space flights are not required. They called it a joyride for the rich. Katy replied, “Dreams matter. We need hope, even in tough times.”
What’s Next for Space?
Blue Origin has visions to continue flying humans to space. They claimed that soon, they would make space travel easy and seamless. More people are going to go into space in the coming years. Travelling into space will be as ordinary as flying by plane. This journey had generated a headline in the news world over. A pop singer in space is somewhat unusual; you do not come across this every day. But it had left questions such as who can go into space. What is space for?
Katy Perry’s Star Also Glows
Katy Perry taught every one of us that if you have the courage, anything can be achieved. There are stars up there in the sky as well, above Earth. Her great music and her mission and message up there in space will never be forgotten. She was added to history—not as a singer, but as a female who dared enough to go up to space, somewhere in there up high.
As she quoted when arriving, “We all have stars inside us. Sometimes we just need a rocket to reach them.”
